Back in January, Nick Cave revealed that he’d gone to the studio with his Bad Seeds member Warren Ellis to make a new album called CARNAGE, and today the pair of surprise-released it.
While it initially seemed like the album would be a full Bad Seeds record, it’s solely credited to Cave and Ellis, marking their first non-soundtrack album as a duo. The new collection moves toward a new upbeat sound after the melancholic tracks of 2019’s Ghosteen. Cave himself called the 8-track collection a “brutal but very beautiful record nested in communal catastrophe.”
“Making CARNAGE was an accelerated process of intense creativity,” Ellis explains. “The eight songs were there in one form or another within the first two-and-a-half days and then it was, ‘let’s just make a record!’ There was nothing too premeditated about it.”

CARNAGE is set to get a vinyl and CD release on May 28th via Goliath Records.
