Sufjan Stevens has released Meditations, the first volume of his forthcoming five-part album, Convocations.
The forthcoming two-and-a-half-hour, 49-track collection is made up of Meditations, Lamentations, Revelations, Celebrations, and Incantations. Stevens wrote and recorded Convocations in 2020 to pay tribute to his father, who died just two days after the release of Stevens’ last album, The Ascension, in September. The five volumes are set to each explore different parts of Stevens’ grieving process, including loss, isolation, and anxiety.
The 10-track Meditations marks the project’s first release, as Stevens will be sharing one volume of the collection every week until its full release on May 6th via Asthmatic Kitty.
