Sufjan Stevens, Angelo De Augustine share two new songs ‘Cimmerian Shade’ & ‘You Give Death A Bad Name’

Sufjan Stevens and Angelo De Augustine are back with two more singles.

The pair are readying the release of their collaborative LP A Beginner’s Mind, out September 24th via Asthmatic Kitty Records. The two new tracks follow previously released singles, “Reach Out”, “Olympus”, “Fictional California” and “Back To Oz” all of which were shared in pairs.

The new singles are ethereal and airy yet both, “Cimmerian Shade” and “You Give Death A Bad Name” are prompted by horror films.

“Cimmerian Shade” inspired by The Silence Of The Lambs is sung from the perspective of serial killer Buffalo Bill. On the other hand, “You Give Death A Bad Name” was driven from Night Of The Living Dead, the tale about violent reanimated corpses.

In a statement Angelo said:

“The song is essentially a dialogue between creation and creator that seeks to find understanding to some of the same questions that we ask ourselves about existence, free will, fate, purpose, guidance, and if anyone or anything out there is listening or cares.”

Listen to “Cimmerian Shade” and “You Give Death A Bad Name” below.

The forthcoming album began when Sufjan Stevens, Angelo and Asthmatic Kitty labelmates headed to a friend’s cabin for a monthlong songwriting session. At the end of each day, they would watch a movie to unwind, and their songs quickly began to reflect the films. They then decided to explore their songwriting connection on a 14-track album.
