Run Into Flowers by M83
Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts (2003)
Before M83 was the solo effort of Anthony Gonzalez, it was a two man affair. Early recordings from the band were a collaborative effort between Gonzalez and Nicolas Fromageau. The two Frenchmen formed the band in 2001 with the release of their self-titled debut. Their sound consisted of extensive use of reverb, digital effects, and spoken word (often sampled from film).
In 2003, the duo released their breakthrough album, Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts. “Run Into Flowers” is a pulsing and intense electronic track that has all the drama and tension of M83’s best tracks from this fertile creative period. For those not super-familiar with the band’s earlier recordings, this song presents a much different sound than the more poppy approach Gonzales has taken on more recent albums like Saturdays = Youth which, introduced the band to an entire new audience.
