The 1975’s Matty Healy announces the band will only play festivals with progressive gender split

After Reading and Leeds shared their male-dominated lineup

The 1975 frontman Matty Healy has announced that the band will only perform at festivals with a progressive gender split.

Reading and Leeds festival recently revealed its full lineup, and a viral post was released with a photoshopped lineup poster that only features the minimal number of female-identifying acts. Guardian journalist Laura Snapes then chimed in about the festival, discussing her experience in the music industry at the BRITs last year.

Healy then responded to some of Snapes’ observations, agreeing that, from now on, The 1975’s festival bookings will feature a clause that commits the promoter to ensure a more progressive gender split in their lineup.
