The 1975’s Matty Healy goes against strict anti-LGBTQ+ laws in Dubai after kissing male fan

In Dubai, homosexuality is punishable with up to 10 years in jail

The 1975 performed in Dubai last night, where frontman Matty Healy kissed a male fan, defying strict anti-LGBTQ+ laws.

While the band was performing, Healy left the stage during “Loving Someone,” when a male fan asked the singer to marry him. In response, Healy invited the fan to hug him, and the pair then kissed. In Dubai, homosexuality is illegal and punishable with up to 10 years in jail.

“Thank you Dubai you were so amazing,” Healy wrote on Twitter. “I don’t think we’ll be allowed back due to my ‘behaviour’ but know that I love you and I wouldn’t have done anything differently given the chance again.”
