The Black Keys share video for new single ‘Wild Child,’ announce 11th studio album ‘Dropout Boogie’

The Black Keys have shared a video for their new song “Wild Child,” which comes in celebration of the announcement of their new album, Dropout Boogie, out May 13th via Nonesuch Records.

Made up of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, The Black Keys’ forthcoming record marks their 11th studio effort to date. Today’s preview, “Wild Child,” is a catchy tune with a pop sensibility added to their usual bluesy sound.

“Wild Child” comes accompanied by a video directed by The Black Keys’ longtime collaborator, Bryan Schlam. The fun-loving clip sees The Black Keys breaking rules as a lunchperson and custodian at a school

Auerbach and Carney wrote all of the songs in studio, and Dropout Boogie boasts many first takes. On the record, the duo return to the stripped back sounds of their early days.

“That’s always been the beauty of the thing Pat and I do. It’s instant,” Auerbach explains. “We’ve never really had to work at it. Whenever we’d get together, we’d just make music, you know? We didn’t know what we were going to do, but we’d just do it and it would sound cool. It’s the natural chemistry Pat and I have. Being in a band this long is a testament to that. It was a real gift that we were given. I mean, the odds of being plopped down a block-and-a-half from each other in Akron, Ohio–it just seems crazy.”

You can hear that easy collaborative sound on “Wild Child.”

Dropout Boogie features collaborations with ZZ Top’s Billy F. Gibbons, Reigning Sound’s Greg Cartwright, and Kings of Leon’s Angelo Petraglia.
