The Cure bassist Simon Gallup replaced by his son at Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival because of ‘a serious personal situation’

Simon's son Eden stepped up to the plate

The Cure bassist Simon Gallup was forced to pull out of Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival after a “serious personal situation,” but rather than cancel the show, Gallup’s son Eden stepped up to the plate.

The festival, which took place over the weekend, saw The Cure headlining the festival’s Green Stage on Sunday with Simon’s son, Eden. “A serious personal situation affecting our bassist Simon arose after the Paleo Festival show on Thursday, and as a consequence Simon was unable to travel with us to Japan,” the band explained in a statement. “Very reluctant to disappoint our wonderful Japanese fans, and after much discussion, we decided to go ahead with our ‘Fuji Festival’ headline on Sunday.”
