Mark and Jay Duplass have a new feature-length documentary about skateboarding legend Tony Hawk in the works.
“We’ve been quietly working on this one for a few years,” Mark Duplass tells Variety. “We are floored with the unmitigated access Tony has allowed us to his life and his fascinating relationship to the sport.”
The Duplass brothers will be producing the project. Filmmaker and photographer Sam Jones will direct the yet-to-be-titled film. The doc will look at Tony Hawk’s life and career to date. Jones is famous for his work on music documentaries like I Am Trying to Break Your Heart and Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continued.

“I’ve been a skater my whole life, so this film is a passion project for me and I am excited to find a good home for it,” Jones says.
Tony Hawk says that filming for the documentary has already been completed. It is reportedly moving into post production.
“We have already shot everything for it, it’s just in the editing process,” Hawk says. “I definitely wanted to give them as much footage and interview as possible.”
The Tony Hawk documentary will likely debut on the fall festival circuit. It will then a wider release in 2022.
In other news, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 were recently remastered. The game has been released on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Vicarious Visions, who handled 2017’s Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy remaster, helmed the project.
The game features most of the original soundtrack. It boasts artists like Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, Goldfinger, Primus, and Rage Against The Machine.
