The first Muslim superhero is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with ‘Ms. Marvel’

A forthcoming live-action series for Disney+

After the success of Captain Marvel, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to get another heroine, Ms. Marvel, who will also be Marvel’s first Muslim superhero.

The forthcoming live-action series for Disney+ is based on the acclaimed comic Ms. Marvel, and it will have Bisha K. Ali as showrunner.

Ms Marvel has existed as a heroine since 1976, with several characters taking up the name including a pre-Captain Marvel Carol Danvers. The latest iteration of Ms. Marvel, which is the one the show will be focusing on, is a teenager named Kamela Khan, a Pakistani-American living in a religious family in New Jersey. Khan’s powers are polymorphous, so she has the ability to stretch and change shape.

A release date has yet to be set for the show.
