The Killers return with new single ‘boy’

The Killers have made their return with a new single, “boy.”

They had initially debuted the track at Mad Cool festival in Madrid in July. Now, it’s gotten an official release. “boy” is the first new music from The Killers since the release of 2021’s Pressure Machine. Produced by the Killers, Stuart Price, and Shawn Everett, the track is a dreamy synth-pop anthem.

“This was the first song written after we had to cancel the Imploding The Mirage tour due to the pandemic,” frontman Brandon Flowers explains. “I had recently moved back to Utah and started to make trips to Nephi, where I grew up. I found that the place I had wanted to get away from so desperately at 16 was now a place that I couldn’t stop returning to. I have a son approaching the age I was at that time in my life. With ‘boy,’ I want to reach out and tell myself – and my sons – to not overthink it. And to look for the ‘white arrows’ in their lives. For me now, white arrows are my wife, children, my songs and the stage.”

Back in March, The Killers released a live film, Notes From A Quiet Town. The live film/documentary is a 33-minute piece that follows The Killers as they visit frontman Brandon Flowers’ hometown, Nephi, Utah. Flowers lived in Nephi from age eight to 16. Notes From A Quiet Town boasts interviews with residents of Nephi alongside stripped-back performances of “Cody,” “Terrible Thing,” and “Quiet Town.”

It’s pretty fitting that The Killers visited Nephi for Notes From A Quiet Town, as Pressure Machine is a concept album all about Flowers’ coming of age there.
