The price increase, which still needs to be approved by city council, will cause tokens and Presto fares to go up to $3.10 from its current $3, and cash fares will stay at $3.25. Children under 12 years old will still be able to ride the TTC for free.
The decision comes after the transit service announced that they need $33 billion over the next 15 years to meet its financial needs. The price hike is set to begin on April 1st, 2019, and according to the TTC, this will generate $26 million in revenue. In addition to the price hike, the TTC is requesting an increase of $22 million in city funding.
