The xx won the Mercury prize for their debut album, 2010’s “xx.” The London, UK band has released their second album, “Coexist.”

The band recorded in both a London studio that they built, and a photo gallery. The album was produced by band member and DJ/remixer Jamie Smith aka Jamie xx. Lead singer Romy Madley Croft explained to Pitchfork that:

“We have a way of working where everything has to be played live. That’s why there’s not loads and loads of guitars or doubled vocals. That’s really how we make minimal music—we’re making what we can play on stage. It sets limits, which is good.”

Nielsen Soundscan reports that Canadian album sales of “Coexist” reached 10,000 units sold in the first week of release – the second highest selling disc in the country that week.
