The xx’s Oliver Sim shares video for debut solo track ‘Romance with a Memory’

The xx’s Oliver Sim has shared a video for his first solo single, “Romance with a Memory.”

The song premiered today (March 10th) during the debut episode of Interludes Radio, The xx’s new monthly radio show for Apple Music. “Romance with a Memory,” which is produced by bandmate Jamie xx, sees Oliver Sim singing of the end of a romance being what he needed. With upbeat keys and catchy vocals, the track is a must-listen solo debut. The accompanying horror-inspired video stars drag artists like Charity Kase, HoSo Terra Toma, and Gena Marvin.

“I’m thrilled, excited, ecstatic, overcaffeinated and overjoyed to be sharing ‘Romance with a Memory’ with you all,” Oliver Sim explains. “Terrifyingly, this is the first song I’ve ever released under my own name, I really hope you all enjoy it. Produced by my dear older brother Jamie xx. I’ve also made a compilation of some of my favourite monsters, killers and queers getting down. I hope both the music and monsters make you feel as happy as they make me–I cannot tell you how much joy it brings me to watch a ghoul having a good time.”

No need to fear The xx fans, Oliver Sim says he is “still very much in a loving and happy relationship/band with Romy and Jamie.” A press release adds that his new music takes inspiration from “his love of horror films and his own life.”

The release also teases that more solo work from Oliver Sim is “imminent.”
