Tom Petty Hospitalized After Cardiac Arrest

66-year-old singer found unconscious in Malibu home

Update 6:00 p.m.: The LAPD has now clarified that it cannot confirm Tom Petty’s death.

Update 4:04 p.m.: The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed to CBS that Tom Petty is dead at the age of 66.

Tom Petty was rushed to the hospital Sunday night after the singer was found in full cardiac arrest in his Malibu home.

According to TMZ, Petty was found unconscious and not breathing, however paramedics were able to find a pulse before moving him to the hospital. Sources say he is currently on life support, while his diagnosis is unclear.

Petty was on an extensive tour with his band and returned home only last week. He is known most famously for “Free Fallin’,” “Learning To Fly,” “I Won’t Back Down,” and more hits.

Update 3:33 pm: TMZ is reporting Tom Petty has been taken off life support:
