Tool perform ‘Culling Voices’ live for the first time

Tool delivered the debut live performance of their Fear Inoculum track, “Culling Voices,” over the weekend.

The band stopped at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento while supporting Fear Inoculum. They resumed touring the album after their world tour was cut short in March 2020. Now that they’ve performed “Culling Voices,” Tool have played all seven tracks from the physical edition of the record live.

Fans filmed the performance, which sees all four members of Tool seated at the front of the stage. Drummer Danny Carey plays guitar during the opening of “Culling Voices.” That performance marked the first time Cary ever played a non-percussion instrument during a Tool set.

Fear Inoculum marked Tool’s first new album in a whopping 13 years. With nothing but interludes clocking in at less than ten minutes, Fear Inoculum is a 10-track effort that features expansive, innovative tunes that truly reinvent the wheel.

In distinctive Tool fashion, the album takes what we know and love from the band and adds even more layers, which means this album is definitely going to take you on a wild trip. “Culling Voices” is a perfect example of that, and the live version is a must-watch.

In November of 2019, Tool announced a deluxe edition of the album. The new expanded book edition is set to feature 5 3D lenticular cards that have exclusive graphics, a download of the immersive video for “Recusant Ad Infinitum,” a CD, and an expanded 56 page booklet with additional never-before-seen artwork.
