Chaz Bear is back with a video for his new single as Toro y Moi, “The Loop.”
The track comes from his forthcoming album, Mahal, out April 29th via Dead Oceans. Today’s release, “The Loop,” is quintessential Toro y Moi. It’s a psychedelic, funky bop with a slow, brooding bassline and deep groove. Lyrically, Toro y Moi delivers lines like, “Oh my where did the weekend go?/ Oh man, Monday snuck up so fast/ No one keeps me in the loop when I get back.”
The accompanying video is directed by Chaz Bear’s own Company Studio outfit. It’s a fun-loving clip that follows Bear and his friends making their way through San Francisco beneath a fisheye lens. Throughout the clip, Toro y Moi and co. roll around on skateboards and drive jeepneys.

MAHAL is a 13-track album marking Toro y Moi’s seventh to date. The record marks Toro y Moi’s first release since he signed to Dead Oceans.
“I wanted to make a record that featured more musicians on it than any other record of mine,” Toro y Moi says. “To have them live on that record feels grounded, bringing a communal perspective to the table.”
In addition to “The Loop,” Mahal also features previously released singles “Postman” and “Magazine.”
