Toronto Arts Council announces COVID-19 Response Fund for artists

The new fund comes from the Toronto Arts Foundation and Toronto Arts Council

Toronto Arts Council has announced a COVID-19 Response Fund to benefit artists.

The new TOArtist COVID Response Fund is in response to the impacts of the coronavirus crisis, and it comes in partnership between the Toronto Arts Foundation and Toronto Arts Council. Qualifying self-employed, individual Toronto artists will receive up to $1000 to help cover any lost income during this time.

“We recognize the adverse impacts that the cancellation of performances and productions, the closure of venues, and the loss of teaching opportunities have on the freelance workers that make up the majority of professional artists in Toronto,” the website reads.

The emergency relief fund is for vulnerable artists in the Toronto arts and culture sector for those who are self-employed and are not eligible for Employee Insurance (EI). Check out the full list of qualifications here.
