What’s going on in the Toronto burlesque scene you ask? This racy list strips down to its racy core.
The Great Canadian Burlesque Company
Every Sunday night, just as the rest of the city crawls into bed, The Great Canadian Burlesque Company comes out to play. Cherry Cola’s plays house to these sexy ladies, tucked away at the corner of Bathurst and Queen, this tiny venue comes alive with excitement. You never know what you can expect from the GCBC; amateur performers are the norm, but an appearance from a hall-of-fame babe might just happen. Insider tip: arrive early.
Although not always burlesque, this cabaret show changes with every performance. Complete with raunchy comedy, burlesque dancers, aerialists, acrobats, a live band, and a rotating cast of extreme and bizarre characters, the cozy Centre of Gravity hosts the Lunacy Cabaret every couple weeks for a new show.
Les Coquettes are a cabaret group in charge of keeping Toronto raunchy. They’re provocative, and erotic in their performance of cirque, comedy, song, dance and striptease. Upcoming performances remain a mystery, but you can keep track of the steamy performances via their Facebook page.
The Painted Lady
Every Friday and Saturday, the Painted Lady comes alive with burlesque performances. Live music fills the venue, while sultry women tease the crowd as they peel their clothes off, piece by piece. This Ossington bar is one of the best venues to catch some burlesque shows.
Toronto Burlesque Festival
The 8th annual Toronto Burlesque Festival takes place August 27-29, 2015 and they are now welcoming performer applications. Maybe it’s time to take up a new hobby?
