A new bike sharing company is launching in Toronto this summer that promises to do away with designated drop-off and pick-up points.
Calling themselves “Canada’s first dockless bike sharing system,” Dropbike works similar to Car2Go car rental service, where riders can pick up and drop off bikes “where you would leave your own bike”.
The system works by scanning a QR code on a a Dropbike that gives the rider the bike lock combination. Once the trip is completed, there are a number of “havens” located within the app that shows which city bike locks can be used.
Rates to use the new service is advertised at a $1/hr starting price. Right now there is no set launch date for the new service, but are promised to be up and running for summer 2017.
