Toronto Man Rescued After Climbing Downtown Construction Crane

Another dangerous crane climbing incident

Emergency crews rescued a man in his 50s from atop a construction crane at Dundas Street E and Jarvis Street overnight. Police were alerted to the situation just before midnight Wednesday by a hotel doorman who saw the man climbing the crane.

The man told emergency crews he “was disappointed with the construction in area” and how “the neighbourhood was changing and he couldn’t find housing,” Fire Services District Chief James Green said.

The man was brought down from the structure around 2:30 a.m. after he was delivered water, food, and cigarettes by negotiators. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No charges have been laid at this time.
