Toronto music venue The Mod Club has permanently closed

A sad day for the live music scene

The Mod Club Theatre on College Street has closed its doors, permanently. The club’s closing was announced in a social media message on Friday night.

“We regret to inform you that The Mod Club Theatre will be closing its doors and operations at 722 College Street…effective immediately,” the message reads.

“Serving you for the last two decades has been full of great memories and good times,” they said. “We hope we have been successful in adding to the community since we first opened our doors in 2002.”

A specific reason for the club’s shuttering was not given, but Toronto’s live music venues, bars, and restaurants have been struggling while the city and province continue to deal with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Mod Club Theatre opened in 2002, and has played host to acts ranging from Wilco, MGMT, Metric, The Weeknd, and many more.
