Toronto police have arrested a man on Monday who allegedly posed as a landlord for a downtown condo and defrauded international students out of money. A City News investigation helped lead authorities to Bum Joon Kim, who had dozens of students pay him thousands of dollars in rent for a Front Street condo.
According to City News, as many as 22 people have filed official complaints about Kim’s activity. Kim was demanding rent money up front, while seemingly renting the unit to numerous people. Police have charged Kim with 21 counts of fraud – three for fraud over $5000 and 18 for fraud under $5000.
