Fans who showed up to Budweiser Stage on Wednesday night for in search of a heavy dose of nostalgia were mostly left feeling bitter and disappointed. Lauryn Hill brought her The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 20th anniversary tour to Toronto, where she reportedly left fans waiting for 45 minutes before rushing through 10 barely recognizable reworks of her hits.
Speculation over whether or not Hill is allowed to perform her songs in their original arrangements has run rampant for years, with many insiders suggesting she does not in fact own the rights, and therefore is left to perform the songs in a different manner than they were recorded. Whatever the case, fans were not happy with the late, short set.
Here’s what Toronto concert goers were saying on social media this morning.
Why did Santigold perform longer than Lauryn Hill at a Lauryn Hill concert lmao

So disappointed in the Lauryn Hill concert tonight. Made fans wait over an hour and then performed for 45 mins max. Could barely recognize the songs she attempted to sing. Cash grab for sure. Don’t waste your money on her!

If I paid to see a two hour set and the act decided to make me wait an hour and twenty minutes to then only play a forty minute set I would be pretty livid.. I don’t understand how Lauryn Hill fans do it and just accept that it is what it is for every show she does.

So disappointed in Lauryn Hill concert. Waited forever for 45 mins. And she yelled at her tech the whole time. Such a legend. Such a fail.

I’m going to pretend I didn’t see Lauryn Hill last night and leave her in my memory.

Dear Lauryn Hill, thanks for taking 20 years to prepare to come on mad late and sing half unrecognizable versions of your greatest hits! @MsLaurynHill
