Toronto trio Tallies are back with a video for their new single, “No Dreams of Fayres.”
The new single serves as the first new music since 2019’s Tallies. “No Dreams of Fayres” takes their quintessential ethereal sound and amps up the shimmering guitars. The Graham Walsh and Dylan Frankland-produced track is truly a dream pop anthem. The track is all about frontwoman Sarah Cogan’s struggles with depression.
“‘No Dreams of Fayres’ is a reflection of thoughts that I remember going through my mind when I stayed still in bed,” Tallies’ Cogan explains. “Feeling as though staying still in bed was the only thing that would help the sadness – basically, disconnecting myself from family, friend, and having a life. Finding the way out of depression was hard but possible. ‘No Dreams of Fayres’ is also about the realization of letting yourself feel real feelings but not mistaking them for emotions. I had to learn to get a grip of what I wanted out of life and go for it with no self-sabotage – which was music, as clichéas it sounds. It pulled me out of bed, physically and mentally.”

Colin Medley directed the accompanying video for the track, and Christopher Mills edited it. The stunning clips follows Cogan as she makes her way through some picturesque smalltown scenery. She even makes a pitstop in a diner as she makes her way through the snowy city.
Tallies’ self-titled debut album was released back in 2019. It channeled the sounds of artists like Lush, The Sundays, and Cocteau Twins. It looks like the band has really cemented their signature sound with this new single. Ultimately, the trio have taken their dreamy sound and added some new layers to it.
Tallies are made up of Cogan, guitarist Dylan Frankland, and drummer Cian O’Neill. They’re set to play some shows over the next few months. Check out the upcoming tour dates below.
