The Tragically Hip’s unforgettable “Man Machine Poem” tour is set to receive a documentary treatment, the Canadian Press reports.
Bell Media will release the documentary on multiple platforms in 2017. Banger Films and directors Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier are at the helm of the project. The filmmakers are working with “hundreds of hours of footage,” from the tour.
Roughly 1/3 of Canada’s population tuned into CBC’s national broadcast of the band’s final show from the tour in August via television, web streaming, and radio. The band launched the tour after frontman Gord Downie announced he has terminable brain cancer.
The sold-out “Man Machine Poem” tour may have inadvertently helped set the wheels in motion for legislature on the practice of “scalper bots” buying up large chunks of tickets for the purpose of re-sale on the secondary market.
