It’s the moment College and University students have all been waiting for – a discounted monthly TTC pass!
On Tuesday, the TTC board approved the U-Pass, which allows for a large reduction on the cost of commute for students. Altogether, the Universal Pass will allow post-secondary students unlimited travel for just $70 a month, a significant discount in comparison to the price of a regular monthly pass.
The TTC Board approved the U-pass for full-time university and college students. U of T holds a referendum next week. If they vote yes, the new pass will cost $70.

In order for the program to work, the TTC states that the University of Toronto, OCAD University, Ryerson University and George Brown College would have to collectively agree to a four-year term.
If the program goes full proof, an added cost of $280 will be added to student fees per semester. From there, students will be able to transfer the pass onto their PRESTO cards.
According to TTC spokesperson Brad Ross via Twitter, the first referendum will occur at U of T next week. Here’s hoping post-secondary students get their discounted TTC passes soon!
