Two new murals by street artist Banksy popped up in London over the weekend. The murals appeared near the Barbican Centre, ahead of the opening of an exhibition by American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Banksy posted the images on his Instagram account with captions aimed at the Barbican Centre. Basquait started out as a graffiti artist in New York. “Major new Basquiat show opens at the Barbican – a place that is normally very keen to clean any graffiti from its walls,” Banksy’s message reads.
The other mural shows police officers searching a depiction of Basquait with the message “Portrait of Basquiat being welcomed by the Metropolitan Police – an (unofficial) collaboration with the new Basquiat show.”
