Oakland-based quartet Ultra Q (formerly known as Mt. Eddy) have shared a brand new single today called “Bowman”.
The group consists of Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong’s son Jakob Armstrong, brothers Enzo and Chris Malaspina and Kevin Judd. Most notably, the group recently signed with Canadian music label Royal Mountain Records (Alvvays, Orville Peck, Mac Demarco).
The new track is a punchy indie-rock tune with infectious riffs and pumping percussion. Alongside the track comes a music video that sees a boy on the run with glitter streaming from his eyes.
Frontman, Armstrong discussed the track: “Lyrically the song is about how I romanticize online relationships and the way in which I grew up more connected to technology than people. Most of it is sort of surreal and vague, but I think that it works well with the nature [and] vibe of the song.
The name of the song is in reference to the character ‘David Bowman’ from 2001 A Space Odyssey. We had been using samples from the movie in a lot of our demos and we thought it would be funny to be literally connected to it.”

The track was written in 2019 before coming back to it this year with the help of PUP’s Steven Babcock.
Meanwhile, Ultra Q’s third EP, ‘Get Yourself A Friend’ is set to arrive on November 19. Additionally, the band are going out on tour across the US with Bad Suns and Liily.
