Since the release of her debut album Be Not Nobody in 2002, to her latest album Liberman released in 2015, Vanessa Carlton has killed the game with original songs and several-hit wonders.
As of late however, the singer/songwriter has been releasing cover after cover. Thus far, she’s released a total of five including “Call Your Girlfriend” by Robyn, “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young’s “Only Love Can Break Your Heart”, “Little Bit of Rain” by Karen Dalton and as of today, “Needle in the Hay” by Elliott Smith, music video included.
The cover series first began in March, and is said to be a six song project. Carlton made a statement about her latest cover release, ““This is one of my favourite songs, period. Elliott was a great poet and the metaphors in this lyric split me open… I hope I did him Justice.”
