Ever wanted to hear what kind of music 70 zebra finches would make if they got together to play a bunch of electric guitars? No? Well French artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot did, and that’s why he created this bird-based audio installation called “From here to ear”. And now that your interest is piqued, you can hear it for yourself.
The idea for the piece came out of a memory from the artist’s childhood – watching birds perching on the wires outside of his window. The piece is currently on display at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, where visitors can walk among the birds causing them to move within the installation and plucking the strings as they take off and land. The birds’ preference for being perched up high ensures that they’re always interacting with the guitars.
The piece runs until the end of March, when the animals will return to their home at an aviary in Thetford Mines, Quebec.
