The new trailer for the remake of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary has arrived, and it’s revealed some key plot changes in the storyline of the forthcoming remake.
The movie, based on King’s renowned book, stars John Lithgow, Amy Seimetz, and Jason Clark, and viewers will once more see the Creed family move to a new city and discover a suspicious pet cemetery near their house. The trailer sees a deviance from the 1989 movie and the book, as the original has toddler Gage Creed whose death was a central plot point as the pivotal character, whereas this time eight-year-old Ellie will meet her maker. “Those woods belong to something else,” a voiceover reveals in the trailer. “Something.”

When speaking with Entertainment Weekly, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura said that the creators of the film were “nervous” about making the change. “I feel this way about anything that you remake or update,” di Bonaventura explained. “If we gave you what you had before, we didn’t do the subject matter much good. I’m very protective of movies too, but I want a new experience each time, and feel like filmmakers have really thought about the choice. That was one, we thought, ‘All right, let’s make this choice.'”
Pet Sematary is set for release on April 5th.
