Watch: Arcade Fire celebrates Carnival in new video for ‘Iko Kreyòl’

Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Régine Chassagne teamed up with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Lakou Mizik, Mardi Gras Indian band, and 79rs Gang to celebrate in the streets of New Orleans and Haiti for the new “Iko Kreyòl” video.

The video for the reinterpretation of the Mardi Gras classic “Iko Iko” was directed by Julia Simpson, and it captures vibrant, powerful clips from the second Krewe du Kanaval festivities, which is a New Orleans Mardi Gras party that celebrates the connection between New Orleans and Haiti.

The idea for the event came in 2015 after Butler and Chassagne visited Haiti with members of Preservation Hall Jazz Band. They then decided to host their own annual Carnival parade and serve several social and culture needs in both locations. Next year’s Krewe du Kanaval festival takes place on February 15th, 2020 in New Orleans.
