Watch: Arlo Parks shares colourful video for new track ‘Too Good’

Brit Award winner Arlo Parks has shared a video for her Collapsed In Sunbeams track, “Too Good.”

The song sees Parks at her most poetic, offering up a tender delivery with catchy R&B-influenced instrumentals. The accompanying Bedroom-directed video comes packed with Parks and friends in a colourful apartment that gives the illusion of animation. Throughout the video, Parks preps food and hangs with friends behind cinematically disorienting wide angle lenses.

“I did this one with Paul in one of our first days of sessions,” Parks explains. “I showed him all the music that I was obsessed with at the time, from ’70s Zambian psychedelic rock to MF DOOM and the hip-hop that I love via Tame Impala and big ’90s throwback pop by TLC. From there, it was a whirlwind. Paul started playing this drumbeat, and I was just running round for ages singing into mics and going off to do stuff on the guitar. I love some of the little details, like the bump on someone’s wrist and getting to name-drop Thom Yorke. It feels truly me.”

Parks’ debut album, Collapsed in Sunbeams sees her embracing intimacy. The 12-track collection opens with a sort of diaristic spoken word. As the album progresses, Parks sings of mental health, queer intimacy, and self-love. The genre-bending record truly blurs the lines between folk, indie, R&B, and jazz.

“My album is a series of vignettes and intimate portraits surrounding my adolescence and the people that shaped it,” Parks explains. “It is rooted in storytelling and nostalgia – I want it to feel both universal and hyper specific.”
