While gearing up for the release of their forthcoming collaborative album, Years to Burn, Calexico and Iron & Wine have shared an animated video for their new track “Midnight Sun.”
“Midnight Sun” is a layered, reverberated folk track that revolves around a looping guitar riff and a booming drum line. “I arrived at our rental house the day before everyone else and was happy to find a piano, old pump organ, and guitar to do some writing,” Calexico’s Joey Burns explained in a statement. “I was up late and came up with a tune that would bridge both bands’ worlds. I started with a drone in F# and was curious as to where it would take me.”
The accompanying clip, which features illustrations by Iron & Wine frontman Sam Beam, is a delicate balance of lyrics and brightly coloured graphics that jut in and out of the screen in a sort of moving collage.

Years to Burn is set for release on June 14th via Sub Pop.
