Watch: Charlotte Cardin shares video for new track ‘Meaningless,’ announces debut album ‘Phoenix’

'Phoenix' is set for release on April 9

Charlotte Cardin has officially announced her highly anticipated debut album, Phoenix, which is set for release on April 9th via Atlantic. As part of the announcement, the Montreal artist has shared a video for her new track “Meaningless.”

Today’s new track is powerful and slow-building, until it explodes into layers of synth, beats, and powerhouse vocal lines. The accompanying Norman Wong-directed video comes packed with stunning low-light shots of Cardin in front of images of a desolate landscape as the sun rises behind her before it cuts to shots of her with a dance crew in front of captivating flashing lights.

The forthcoming 13-track album, which marks her first full-length, serves as the follow-up to 2017’s EP Main Girl and features previously released singles “Passive Aggressive” and “Daddy.”

“I have always been torn between my true desires and what I choose to present to the world,” Cardin explains. “This conflict of will has gotten me to feel very empty at a young age and is still something I struggle with. Making this album took two years, because I started the writing process trying to keep control over what I wanted to show. It eventually became obvious, though, that I needed to embrace accessing those true impulses for my music (and my life) to make any sense whatsoever. The more I realized certain things about myself in the process, the angrier I got for not understanding them earlier. This conflicting loop of shame versus growth gave birth to Phoenix.”
