Disney is hard at work, releasing live-action remake after live-action remake. So far, they have done Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast. This is a busy year for Disney, as this year alone they have three live-action remakes in the works, including Aladdin, Dumbo and The Lion King, which premieres in theatres July 19th.
Following that impressive line up, is the forthcoming live-action adaptation of 1998’s Mulan. Mulan is a young woman who lives in a patriarchal regime where she disguises herself as a man in order to enlist in the war, thereby taking her ailing father’s place. She becomes a skilled fighter and saves all of China from a Hun invasion. The live action adaptation takes a different approach from the original 1998 version, as director Niki Caro and her screenwriting team have based it on the original narrative poem, “The Ballad of Mulan.”
