Watch: Emily Haines Debuts New Video for Single ‘Statuette’

Haines acts out uncomfortable audition in new video

Metric’s Emily Haines has released a new music video for new single “Statuette.” The song is off her forthcoming solo album Choir of the Mind, which is her first solo album in nearly a decade and due out September 15.

Haines’ solo project, Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton, first began in 2006 with Knives Don’t Have Your Back and left off with 2007’s What is Free to a Good Home? before going on a hiatus. Choir of the Mind serves as a follow-up to those two projects.

This new video was directed by Justin Broadbent and sees slightly disturbing clips of Haines as she portrays an uncomfortable casting scene.

“We replicated a sleazy audition taping where the objectified woman’s value is reduced to the commercial desirability of her flesh. In the video, I get to reclaim myself and own it in the end,” Haines explains.
