Bell Media unveiled a trailer for its upcoming documentary on the Tragically Hip’s summer 2016 cross-country tour. It’s a powerful clip in which Hip frontman Gord Downie talks candidly about the decision to hit the road following his terminal brain cancer diagnosis.
“That first rehearsal…I’m not sure what to expect, and this like ‘oh, wow’ because I actually couldn’t remember a damn thing,” Downie says. “I think they [the band] were all waiting for me to decide, and I said ‘yes, I definitely want to do this.’ I think if I don’t do it, I will be just crushed. I don’t want to go out like that.”
The documentary will focus on the lead up to the Hip’s “Man Machine Poem” tour, which concluded with a CBC national broadcast of their final concert in Kingston, On. The film will hit theatres in the fall and will also run on CTV as a two-hour special in October.
