Watch: Japanese Breakfast delivers mesmerizing performance of ‘Paprika’ on ‘Kimmel’

Following the release of Jubilee, Japanese Breakfast took to Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform “Paprika.”

Japanese Breakfast have proved themselves to be a bit of a connoisseur with the home-filmed TV performances. A few months back, the band performed from the empty Brooklyn venue National Sawdust for The Tonight Show. Now, Japanese Breakfast have matched that energy with their Kimmel performance.

Guest host Wanda Sykes revealed that Japanese Breakfast would be playing from the empty Sellersville Theater in Pennsylvania. The clip sees frontwoman Michelle Zauner decked out in a captivating, campy outfit beneath a dreamy, blurry lens. The rest of the band were also decked out in fancy clothes, as Zauner carried around a large mallet and hit a gong. Each time Zauner hit the gong, the lighting changed.

Zauner recently announced that her bestselling memoir Crying In H Mart is being adapted into a movie. The film will be adapted by MGM’s Orion Pictures.

The book debuted at Number 2 on the New York Times Non-Fiction bestseller list. It sees Zauner talking about her life as an independent rock artist through the lens of her struggles with identity as a half-Korean, half-white woman. Crying In H Mart also tackles her mother’s terminal cancer diagnosis.

All of this will be brought to life on screen with Zauner adapting the film herself and providing its soundtrack. Stacey Sher and Jason Kim will also be producing the flick.
