Watch: Japanese Breakfast delivers performance of ‘Be Sweet,’ ‘Jimmy Fallon Big!’ for ‘The Tonight Show’

'Jubilee' is set for release on June 4

While gearing up for the release of Jubilee on June 4th via Dead Oceans, Michelle Zauner, aka Japanese Breakfast, took to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote the album.

During the episode, Zauner and co. performed “Be Sweet” at Brooklyn’s National Sawdust beneath colourful lights, as the camera followed Zauner throughout the venue. As a web exclusive, Japanese Breakfast also performed her 2017 Soft Sounds from Another Planet track, “Jimmy Fallon Big!”

Fallon explains the inspiration behind “Jimmy Fallon Big!,” which he says was because a band member had left Japanese Breakfast to start a new band called Jimmy Fallon Big!, in an attempt to get on The Tonight Show. The member returned to Japanese Breakfast, and upon their return, they made the song, “Jimmy Fallon Big!”

“After spending the last five years writing about grief, I wanted our follow up to be about joy,” Zauner explains of Jubilee. “For me, a third record should feel bombastic and so I wanted to pull out all the stops for this one. I wrote ‘Be Sweet’ with Jack Tatum from Wild Nothing a few years ago. I’ve been holding onto it for so long and am so excited to finally put it out there.”
