Watch: Japanese Breakfast release eerie video for new track ‘Posing In Bondage’

'Jubilee' drops on June 4 via Dead Oceans

While gearing up for the release of their third album, Jubilee, on June 4th, Japanese Breakfast have shared an eerie video for their new track, “Posing In Bondage.”

The track, which marks the follow-up to “Be Sweet,” was originally released a few years back as part of a 4-track singles series, but now it’s been reworked for the album. The accompanying self-directed music video was shot at Los Angeles’ Super A Foods grocery store, and it comes packed with creepy shots of frontwoman Michelle Zauner making her way through the aisles with blood on her face before Girlpool’s Harmony Tividad feeds her some ramen.

“‘Posing In Bondage’ is a ballad about loneliness and longing, a song about two people who want so badly to connect but are never quite able to do so,” Zauner explains of the track. “No place felt lonelier than an empty grocery store at 1AM. The video is actually an epilogue to the one that will accompany our next single, here presented out of order.”

“After spending the last five years writing about grief, I wanted our follow up to be about joy,” Zauner explains. “For me, a third record should feel bombastic and so I wanted to pull out all the stops for this one. I wrote ‘Be Sweet’ with Jack Tatum from Wild Nothing a few years ago. I’ve been holding onto it for so long and am so excited to finally put it out there.”
