Watch: Jenny Lewis gives lively performance of ‘Wasted Youth’ on ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’

'Wasted Youth' recalls themes of her difficult childhood

Jenny Lewis recently took to The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Monday, where she gave a lively playful performance of “Wasted Youth” from her fourth solo album, On the Line. Lewis, decked in a flower crown, and her band wore matching bright blue sweatsuits decorated with skulls, against a backdrop of colorful poppies.

The song “Wasted Youth” recalls memories from her difficult childhood, but the performance gives it a whimsical, playful side of being young. The pink accents of the mics, the retro telephone, and the lighting makes the performance fun, playful and youthful. The backdrop of poppies is echoed by the lyrics in the song as Lewis sings, “I wasted my youth on a poppy.” When Lewis sings her heart out at the bridge of the song, pink and blue balloons rain upon Lewis and her band.
