It was a full house for the Obamas on their final Fourth of July as the first family.
The White House was the place to be Monday evening, as Kendrick Lamar and Janelle Monáe performed in front of government officials and military families in the Washington residence.
And although the 4th of July marks the important anniversary of America’s independence, Lamar and Monáe weren’t just celebrating the patriotic holiday.
“It just so happens that we celebrate our country’s birthday on the same day that we celebrate my oldest daughter’s birthday,” Obama said, before bringing daughter Malia on stage. The pair stuck around to sing “Happy Birthday” to Malia, with the president himself, to help ring in her 18th year.

Earlier in the evening, Lamar and Monáe hit the stage to play songs from their own albums, with Lamar preforming “Money Trees,” “Swimming Pools (Drank),” “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe,” “A.D.H.D.” and “Alright” and Monáe belting out “Tight Rope” and a refreshing rendition of Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy.”
