Broken Social Scene co-leader Kevin Drew made his return with a holiday track a couple months back called “Depressed Unicorn Christmas Song,” and now he’s shared a previously unreleased track called “How’s It Going.”
The dreamy new track was recorded back in 2014, around the time of Drew’s sophomore solo album, Darlings. With uplifting instrumentals and silky, tuned up falsettos, this tune is sure to bring you a little joy amidst the pandemic. The accompanying video also features archival footage, which will have you longing for pre-COVID days. The video also features a photograph as a tribute to our beloved Dave “Bookie” Bookman, who passed away in May of 2019.
“How’s it going. This is a loaded question as we watch each other trying to navigate these times,” Drew explains. “Back in summer of 2014 I put down a song called ‘how’s it going’ with my usual crew of believers. It was never released. My friend Jordan and I hunted down footage on the internet to put this video for the tune together. Many thanks to all those directors, artists, archivists and faces that we used. – I miss the days of before as I wait for the days of new to keep arriving. Love to you all – hold on xox Kevin…And to those who left – Ravi, Darius, Dave, Gord, Will and Hal – x.”
