After announcing her highly anticipated new album Home Video yesterday (April 14th), Lucy Dacus took to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to perform “Hot & Heavy.”
The performance saw Dacus and her backing band on stage at an empty Virginia Repertory Theatre in her hometown of Richmond, Virginia. Dacus’ mother used to play piano for musicals in the theater, and the performance of “Hot & Heavy” sees Dacus channeling the nostalgic tone of her forthcoming album.
Beneath bright lights and hazy effects, Dacus offers up powerful, throaty vocals, as she delivers lines like, “Being back here makes me hot in the face/ Hot blood in my pulsing veins/ Heavy memories weighing on my brain.”
Watch Dacus’ performance of “Hot & Heavy” below.
The forthcoming memoir-like album is set for release on June 25th via Matador, and it serves as a follow-up to 2018’s Historian.
