Mark Ronson released Uptown Special just over a year ago, back in January 2015. It was met with worldwide acclaim for the Bruno Mars collab, mega-pop track “Uptown Funk”. Though Mars’ collaboration was only the tip of the iceburg.
Kevin Parker’s work on both “Summer Breaking” and “Daffodils,” might be the high point of the record for some. The Tame Impala singer lends his voice on both summer-reminiscent tracks, both of which are a welcomed sight during the bleak winter months.
Directed by Theo Wenner, the video portrays a young woman played by Playboy model Sarah McDaniel, on vacation with her family during the “Summer Breaking” section. She wanders off with a local boy for some night dancing while the groovier “Daffodils” section breaks in. Wenner spoke to Rolling Stone about his collaboration with Ronson:
“This video is something that Mark and I have been discussing on and off for a year prior to making it. It came about in a very abstract way. We had long conversations just about color and times of day. I had it in my head the whole time that we should set it in the tropics. That’s the place, those are the colors that I pictured listening to the two songs.”
