Marvel has been making major strides in diversifying their lineup of superheros, with Black Panther, Shang-Chi, Black Widow, and The Eternals, which will feature the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) first openly gay hero. Now, Marvel head Kevin Feige has confirmed that a trans character will also be joining the MCU.
The character will be hitting the big screen “very soon, in a movie that we’re shooting right now,” Feige revealed at a Q&A for the New York Film Academy. Several audience members asked questions about diversity and inclusivity, when one aspiring filmmaker asked if there were any upcoming plans to include more LGBTQ+ characters, “specifically trans characters.” Feige responded with, “Yes, absolutely yes.”
