Former R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe virtually took to The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to perform a brand new track “No Time For Love Like Now,” a collaboration with The National’s guitarist Aaron Dessner.
Wearing a seafoam green sweater matching the walls around him, Stipe opens the video donning a hat with The Late Show With Stephen Colbert logo. The somber track is backed by gentle, guitar-led instrumentals as Stipe softly delivers lyrics like, “Where did this all begin to change?/The lockdown memories can’t sustain/This glistening, hanging free fall.”
“No Time For Love Like Now” is a track meant for Dessner’s project Big Red Machine, Dessner’s duo with Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon. This leaves fans wondering if Stipe is going to make more appearances on Big Red Machine.
