Blood Orange has a new song called “Born to Be,” which soundtracks the trailer for Netflix’s Beckett.
The forthcoming action thriller stars John David Washington as Beckett, an American tourist in Greece. Beckett finds himself at the middle of a dark political conspiracy when his girlfriend mysteriously disappeared. The trailer sees the couple’s car fall over a cliff, and Beckett wakes up confused in a hospital as the track plays on top.
Blood Orange croons lines like, “Not a soul will take my breath,” as Beckett runs from the Greek police. The track is more intense than a usual Blood Orange tune, as he moves toward a more pulsing instrumental.

“I know you’re scared, I get it. But you don’t have the whole picture,” someone at the American embassy says. Beckett then asks, “Then who’s after me?”
Directed by Ferdinando Cito Filomarino and produced by Luca Guadagnino, Beckett premieres on Netflix on August 13th. The film will star Boyd Holbrook, Vicky Krieps, and Alicia Vikander.
Blood Orange (aka Devonté Hynes) also directed a music video for his recent Mykki Blanco collaboration, “It’s Not My Choice.”
“Creating with Dev Hynes as director of this video was as effortless as creating the song together,” Blanco explains. “I have long admired that Dev has never compromised along his musical trajectory, offering us songs that play between disciplines and genres at the wave of a hand. This video was carefree and captured what I feel to be some quintessential summer moments – being with friends, being in nature, and having a sense of poise no matter your own personal thunderstorm.”
